Mirza Mows Over Tough All-Star Field

On a warm summer saturday, All-Star race #3 was held at Lebanon Valley Dragway with 45 dedicated racers. Round 3 began with Bob Vogel's K/SA '81 Malibu defeating Dean Ribeiro's C/SA '97 Camaro 11.65 to 11.16. Greg Gay's 10.67 (10.66) from his GT/LA '80 Mirada defeated Woody Pagano's 10.39 (10.38) from his B/SA '70 Nova. Bob Broadbent's dial matching 10.08 from his A/S '69 Camaro defeated Bill Pomponi's 11.42 (11.40 dial) from his G/SA '69 Camaro. D.J. Pires' 11.38 from his H/SA Nova bested Tom Boucher's 9.61 from his '87 Camaro. George Mirza's D/SA '71 Duster ran a 10.98 (10.93) to hold off Paul Sutherland's 10.26 (10.24) from his SS/HA '66 Nova Wagon. Dave Ficacci's 10.14 (10.13 dial) got the best of Gene Monahan's 12.10 in his J/SA '89 Firebird.


Quarterfinal action saw George Mirza's 11.00 (10.94) defeat Bob Broadbent's 10.11 (10.07) from his A/S Camaro. Bob Vogel's 11.65 (11.63) from his '81 Malibu K/SA defeated Greg Gay's 10.67 (10.65) from his '80 Mirada. D.J. Pires defeated Dave Ficacci in a double break-out affair 11.31 (11.34) to 10.09 (10.13). Semi-finals saw George Mirza previal over Bob Vogel 11.02 (10.98) to 11.65 (11.64). D.J. Pires sped to a 11.40 on the bye and would face Mirza in the final. Mirza's dead-on 10.98 in the final defeated Pires 11.37 (11.31) in the final.
